Thursday's Kitchen Cupboard..........1/12/2012

We had some good meals this week made with stores from our cupboard! We had a great Chili Con Carne made with canned tomatoes, onion, garlic and dried beans....all from the garden! We also used some of the fresh pak choi and frozen veggies in an Asian mung bean dish.

But, here is something else that was made with some stored goodness. Some of you may remember this post on goodies that I made with pears. "The Italian" decided to use the pear syrup and a pear to make a couple of Pear Martinis. Boy, were they good!

Pear Martini

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 ounces of Vodka
  • 1 ounce of Pear Liqeur - he used Poire William
  • 1 ounce of Pear Syrup (this could probably be substitued with pear liquid from canned pears)
  • 1/2 of a canned Pear
  • Crushed Ice
Directions:
  1. Chill martini glasses with crushed ice and water
  2. Add some crushed ice to your martini shaker then add all ingredients, except the pear
  3. Shake & pour
  4. Serve with half of a pear
  5. Enjoy!

Isn't that lovely??

I'm not a big pear fan.....but I really loved this martini! It was just right and not too sweet!

What's been going in or out of your cupboard lately??

  3. I do love pear alcohol and perry (but not pear ciders - they're way to sweet). A pear martini is one for me without a doubt. In fact, I might have one in a minute, even though I'm working!!!

  4. Liz, It is great! I have never had pear cider before. Sounds interesting

IG, I think any time of the day is a good time for a martini!!

MrsP, We made 3 and split them between the two of us. I think that I had a little more then "The Italian" did :)

  5. Pears are one of my all time favorite fruits - the sweet grainy texture is just too wonderful for words. Not a martini drinker but I can imagine that would taste lovely!

As always, we are using our stored and preserved foods on a daily basis (we don't buy vegetables). Our fresh harvests have been meager the past two weeks and likely will continue to be so for another two or three weeks as the older crops are getting depleted from prior harvests and the younger ones coming along are not quite ready yet, but soon! Not to say we dont' have fresh harvests, just minimal in comparison to the use of preserved and stored items. My fresh harvests always start increasing after the first week of February - happenes to just coincide with imbolc (Feb 2) when we turn the corner on ramping up the amount and strength of available sunlight.

  13. That's it! We're planting a pear tree just so we can make that fine drink and all the other wonderful things you've made with pears. I think there's space in the front yard for just such a tree.

  15. Jody, That sounds like a plant to me! Now, get digging!

Norma, I just started eating pears. So, I am not a good judge. "The Italian" does like Bartlet pears though.
