Harvest Monday.....................08/06/2012

We finally had a good week of harvests!!! The tomatoes are starting to come in!! I also harvested eggplant, cabbage, beans, zucchini and some peppers. I am happy that the cucumbers have slowed down a bit since most of the pickles and relish have been made and canned.

I wasn't very good at taking pics of the harvests. But, here's an idea of what my kitchen has been looking like lately.

This is the kitchen island before I started canning and chopping.

I think I need more room!

Most of Sunday's tomato harvest.

We just love these Chinese Red Noodle Beans!

I hope you're having some great harvests too!!

Harvest Total: 92.375 lbs
Beans:
Dean's Purple Pole Beans- 9.5 oz

  3. Wow! I would love to have a garden big enough and sunny enough to get half that, though I don't really envy you all that work, lol.

  9. I miss having tomatoes. I find the harvests a little bland (except for the corn) at this time of the year without my peppers and tomatoes. I can't wait for the melons to get ripe. That will add something to my harvests.

  10. Robin,

Looks like all of your tomatoes are ready at the same time. There going to keep you busy for a while there girl :-)
Are you canning all kinds of gravy for the Italian?
Don't work to hard, have a wonderful day.

    1. Sandy, Yes, I have been canning whole tomatoes and plain tomato puree. "The Italian" won't let me add anything to the puree since he makes at least 10 different varieties of red sauce. That's much easier for me!

  11. Next year I'm planting all determinite varieties so I get canning tomatoes all at once. I'm tired of this piddling along!

    1. Granny, I didn't think the tomatoes would ever start coming in. I planted several new varieties this year that I'm very pleased with. I also have several mystery varieties this year. I have never had this many mess ups. Some of them are a total mystery.

  17. That's a ton of tomatoes! Have you perfected any techniques to speed up processing that many tomatoes?

    1. Julie, I don't mind processing tomatoes. It's all the other stuff that takes a lot of time. I just keep blanching, peeling, coring and jarring over and over and over.

  18. Honestly...how beautiful is that!! You need to frame those pictures and hang them in your kitchen...you have worked so hard and have been really rewarded! Just wonderful! I just want to reach out and grab a few of those beautiful tomatoes: YUMMY!

  19. Wow Robin, I am impressed with the tomatoes. I am hoping this fall my kitchen will look the same except I am afraid as usual most of the the tomatoes will be green when picked. They usually are and with the 50's nights we are getting already I am concerned about that Blue Moon the end of August.

    1. Laura, I'm happy that you're amazed. I'm a little disappointed with them. They are late and I lost a lot to BER during one of our heat waves/drought. Just so I get enough canned to get us through the year.
