Thursday's Kitchen Cupboard................8/23/2012

I was going to do a post on what has been preserved this past week. You all can imagine all the canning and freezing that has been going on around here! But, when I came home from work on Tuesday evening, "The Italian" had a nice surprise for me!! He had gotten home a few hours earlier and decided to make a nice summer adult drink for us!

He was making Watermelon Martinis!!!

Oh boy....were they ever good!
The watermelon was perfect and sweet and so was "The Italian's" welcome home!

The martini was easy to make. He cut up some watermelon, blended it with the immersion blender, added vodka, a club soda float and a slice of sweet watermelon!

After we had two martinis each, he decided to make a Martini just for Granny! Since "The Italian" and Granny both like their tomato sandwiches with Miracle Whip instead of mayonnaise.

Yep, he made a Tomato & Miracle Whip Martini!!

I was hesitant at first....but, it tasted just like a tomato sandwich!!! All it needed was a nice slice of crusty bread!! So, what do you think we should call it????

What's been going in or out of your Kitchen Cupboard lately???

    1. It was actually good. I really hesitated before I tasted it. If he makes one again, it will be served with bread!

  3. You should call it Granny's Miracle. But I'd probably snort it out my nose while drinking if you called it that. Next you should try watermelon sangria. There is a restaurant near our house that is making them now. I'm not a fan of watermelon (don't like the texture much), but those re delicious.

    1. Daphne, it's a miracle that I tasted it! I don't know if I would like the sangria since I don't like sweet drinks.

    1. Leave it to "The Italian" to come up with an interesting adult drink! One year, we were making infused vodkas and he made Weenie Chello for my son as a Christmas gift! Yes, it was vodka infused with hot dogs!

  7. I suspicion the tomato and miracle whip martini improves in it's appeal after you have already enjoyed two watermelon martinis (or more!). ;D

  8. I thought the same thing Laura did - that would make a better 3RD martini than first one! How about calling it a 'Grannytini'?

    2. I think you should have a contest. The winner would receive a jar of Miracle Whip ;-)

  10. The watermelon martini sounds good but not crazy about martinis. Not so sure about the tomato one since I don't like Miracle Whip.

  14. OMG! I love The Italian, and we're definitely on the same page with our tomato and Miracle Whip sammiches, but I think he'd have to get me totally drunk to try that Grannytini!

I'll try to see you tomorrow with my TKC, I'm too darned busy today!

  18. I have to admit to being really really dubious about the potential merits of tomato and miracle whip. It was nice? Really? The watermelon one though - now that does sound good.
