Thursday's Kitchen Cupboard............09/13/2012

There's been a lot of preserving going on around our place lately. I'm a little behind on a few things. But, I'm gradually getting things done. As usual, I didn't dry as many herbs in the beginning of the season like I should have.

Right now there's Oregano and also Tarragon hanging in the kitchen drying .
I also need to dry a little more basil. That will be done in the microwave.

And of course, Tomatoes and a little more Tomato Puree have been canned.
Hopefully the tomato canning will be done this week since I have other things that need to be canned!

The beautiful Strawberry Popcorn adorns the pot rack.
It's so pretty, I think I will leave it there!

I've also started shelling some of the dry beans. These are Kidney Beans.
The raspberries I picked are being made into some Raspberry Infused Vodka. I can't wait until "The Italian" makes us some nice Adult Beverages with it this weekend! I wonder what he will come up with this time???

  1. How do you dry basil in the microwave? wouldn't it burn it? I use my oven at 180 to dry mine. Love that beautiful popcorn display :)

    1. No, it doesn't burn. I put it on a low setting and keep checking it.

  2. Wow, that pop corn is so pretty, it's like jewelry! Good amount of kidney beans as well! My beans got some damage from Mexican bean beetles before they completely dried...

    I need to read your blog more frequently! I could learn so much and get new ideas. Reality check: I work full-time and have a small urban garden. Thanks for the inspiration!

  8. Love the way you decorate you kitchen with items drying. I need to get some oregano picked and tried. Have a big bunch of basil in the refrig to get froze right now.

  9. We too are buried in canning and preserving jobs right now! Tomatoes, beans, berries, pickles, the list goes on. Whew . . . I think we may be glad when the frost comes!!

  11. That has to be the most beautiful corn I've ever seen. While I am not much for liquor (always preferred a beer myself) I bet a raspberry vodka would be quite tasty. Not to mention lovely to look at!

  12. Cut some more parsley today to dry. I didn't dry my oregano when I should have either. Wondering if I should still cut some to dry now that it has flowered? You continue to get so much done! Nancy

    1. Nancy, just cut the flowers off the nice stems and hang it up. Oregano is the easiest herb to dry. It will be just fine!

    1. That Italian is quite a guy! We sure will enjoy our weekend. "The Italian" and I are planning to can peaches and maybe pears too. I told him if he wants them, he has to help!

  14. Every time I read your posts about preserving your produce, I whisper to myself..."Someday..." BTW...we enjoyed The Italian's spicy rub on BBQ baby back ribs last weekend and my husband fell in love with all over again!

  15. Your stores are beautiful. We're trying to store herbs like you this year for our first time. So far we have dried a good bit of basil. There's sage and other stuff in the herb garden. Thanks for the added inspiration! Your strawberry popcorn is beautiful! Enjoy. I know we will!
