The moment that all of us gardeners wait for has finally arrived.....big tomatoes!!!
The first Cherokee Purple tomato was harvested from the home garden on Monday July 15th!
It weighed in at 7 oz. "The Italian" and I shared this delight and had tomato sandwiches and salad for dinner!
Last night I picked the second Cherokee Purple, an Eva's Purple Ball and a few Sungolds! The second CP weighed 9 oz. I guess it will be tomato sandwiches for dinner tonight!
Robin,
ReplyDeleteThose are nice looking tomatoes. My plants have all kinds of flowers, I'm waiting for tomatoes.
Yum tomato sandwiches........any time!!!
Thanks Sandy, If your weather is too hot those flowers won't set fruit. Once they do, you will be in tomato heaven! Yep, there's nothing better than a tomato sandwich!
DeleteVery nice looking tomatoes! I have couple average-sized picked but no CP yet or Brandywine.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny, My first full size tomato always seems to be a CP. I guess we are lucky!
Deletetomatoes!!!!! wow!!!! i had just 4 little cherry tomatoes yesterday but wow i enjoyed them
ReplyDelete:-)
Wow....for sure!!! You'll be enjoying some big ones soon too!
DeleteWe have some brandy Boy growing but none ready yet. But a few years ago we picked this one

Sue, those two tomatoes were absolutely amazing!!! You've got me beat!
DeleteOurs will be eaten on BLTs for lunch, and topping tacos for dinner! These first few are so welcome, but in a couple of weeks I'll probably be wondering what to do with them all...too many to eat fresh, not enough to can and no room for them in the freezer!
ReplyDeleteOh boy Granny, a BLT sounds wonderful!! You may have enough to can....time will tell!
DeleteWonderful and green (well my tomatoes are at least). Comments on the taste - Will you grow purple again? I have a plant, but so far mine have not shown any sign of ripening....
ReplyDeleteHi there, yes, we grow purples every year. They are our favorite eating/slicing tomatoes. Enjoy yours when they get ripe!
DeleteCongrats!!
ReplyDeleteAnd here we are in hot and humid North Carolina *still* waiting on our first ripe tomato...
(I have to keep remembering that our long, cool spring this year rewarded us with normally medicore Spring crops such as cauliflower and broccoli; but it's hard when you're staring at large numbers of green tomatoes everyday...).
Thanks! Yes, it's very hard to look at tons of green tomatoes. Your time will come!
DeleteLucky you! Yummy tomatoes. I have green ones and a few ripe cherry and sungold. Has been so hot and humid and we could use rain. Nancy
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy, We've been getting some big ones this past week!
DeleteCongrats. that's a beauty I've never had a cherokee purple but a friend of mine at work raised some and said they were delicious. Did she bring any? NO, ha. BLT's, one of my favorites!! You're always an inspiration, keep it up.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much 1st Man, I'm glad that I am an inspiration to someone! When you get your garden up and running.....you definitely have to plant some CP's!
DeleteYummy! The CP are beautiful. All my large tomatoes are still green, but I have been harvesting a couple Bloody Butcher tomatoes. This heat has been horrible. I want to spend time down at my garden and it is just too hot even in the early morning. Happy gardening!
ReplyDeleteHey Tricia, I see you did harvest some bigger tomatoes this past week. It's finally cooled down!!! Yippeee!!!!
DeleteYahoo!!! I love tomato time. Ours is coming later that usual this year but every time I head over to the garden I notice more new tomatoes on the plants!! Soon!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThe tomato glut will be here before you know it!!!
DeleteCongrats! That's a beauty!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mac, it was delicious too!
DeleteThank you for your very good site….
