They're Starting!!!!

The moment that all of us gardeners wait for has finally arrived.....big tomatoes!!!

The first Cherokee Purple tomato was harvested from the home garden on Monday July 15th!
It weighed in at 7 oz. "The Italian" and I shared this delight and had tomato sandwiches and salad for dinner!

Last night I picked the second Cherokee Purple, an Eva's Purple Ball and a few Sungolds! The second CP weighed 9 oz. I guess it will be tomato sandwiches for dinner tonight!

    1. Thanks Sandy, If your weather is too hot those flowers won't set fruit. Once they do, you will be in tomato heaven! Yep, there's nothing better than a tomato sandwich!

  5. Ours will be eaten on BLTs for lunch, and topping tacos for dinner! These first few are so welcome, but in a couple of weeks I'll probably be wondering what to do with them all...too many to eat fresh, not enough to can and no room for them in the freezer!

  6. Wonderful and green (well my tomatoes are at least). Comments on the taste - Will you grow purple again? I have a plant, but so far mine have not shown any sign of ripening....

    1. Hi there, yes, we grow purples every year. They are our favorite eating/slicing tomatoes. Enjoy yours when they get ripe!

  7. Congrats!!

And here we are in hot and humid North Carolina *still* waiting on our first ripe tomato...

(I have to keep remembering that our long, cool spring this year rewarded us with normally medicore Spring crops such as cauliflower and broccoli; but it's hard when you're staring at large numbers of green tomatoes everyday...).

  10. Yummy! The CP are beautiful. All my large tomatoes are still green, but I have been harvesting a couple Bloody Butcher tomatoes. This heat has been horrible. I want to spend time down at my garden and it is just too hot even in the early morning. Happy gardening!
