"The Italian" is making Bread!

Last week I found a brand new bread maker on Craigslist for $10.!! It's probably not the best bread maker out there....but how can you go wrong for $10.?? That's about the cost of 3 loaves of bread at the store!! We decided to get it and that "The Italian" would be responsible for making the everyday bread with it.

Here it is...the $10 bread maker!
There wasn't a manual with it, so I went on the internet and downloaded one.

TaDa..."The Italian's" first loaf of bread. It looks a little crusty in the picture...but, it is a really good bread for everyday. I'm sure that he will be testing many recipes!

Thanks Granny for giving us some bread making tips!!

  1. That was a great buy at $10 and should pay you back in short order. Fresh bread just cannot be beat!

  2. I've found even the "light crust" setting is too dark and crusty for our liking, but mine has a "sandwich bread" setting that works well. It would help if Mr. Granny would eat something other than plain white!

It won't take you long at all to get your $10 worth!

  3. Laura, Yes it was a great deal and I think he will have fun playing and baking with it!

Granny, This bread turned out really well for the first try and first recipe. We will see if it is the bread he will stick with for our everyday sandwich bread. He just loves messing around with kitchen gadgets and recipes! I think about two more loaves and we will have our $10 worth!

  4. Ummmhhhhhh. I can smell it from here...nothing like the smell of freshly baking bread. You have yourself a winner there!

  5. WE use our breadmaker all the time and sometimes set it so that we have freshly baked bread on a morning - we have found that the most important thing to have success is to measure the ingredients and use exactly the amount that is stated in the recipe. Try Googling for a manual - we found one for ours when we lost the original.

  6. Aw no. Use the oven.

I have a few bread-making tips, but they're all for baking in an oven. I avoid breadmakers because they're the devil's toilet bowl!

  7. Patricia, I agree...he's a Keeper!!

Sue, That would be nice to have a fresh baked loaf first thing in the morning. I did find a manual on-line and downloaded it.

IG, I make the rustic bread in the oven.....but, "The Italian" is now responsible for making the everyday bread since he eats so much of it!!

  8. We've had an inexpensive Oster breadmaker for years, and it gets used regularly! I highly recommend The Bread Lovers Bread Machine Cookbook by Beth Hensperger. She has some great recipes.

My only complaint about hours is the lack of a timer feature for dough. I wish I could have pizza dough awaiting me upon my arrival home from work.

    HAve fun!

  9. Henbogle complains of no dough timer for preparing pizza dough....why couldn't one use an inexpensive plug-in timer, and set it to turn on the appliance at the proper time? When not in use for the bread maker, it could be used for the lights over the seedlings!

  10. Great find! BM comes in handy on days when I don't feel like using the oven.

  12. Granny, That's a great idea! You just reminded me that I need to go get another timer for downstairs!!

Mac, I don't think that I would have spent the money to buy a new one at the store. They can be quite pricey.

Jane, He is the big bread eater around here...so it should be his chore :) I think that he will have lots of fun with it..he is a kitchen gadget guy!!

  13. That's a great find for $10! I bought mine for $30 five years ago and it's not as nice looking so I'd say you got a deal!

  14. What i great deal at 10$!!! My husband don't like the bread that we can buy at the store, so i have to make bread. That BM would fit me wonderful. Hahaha, i'm jealous

  15. That's a great deal for $10!! I use a breadmaker for making for our toast/sandwich bead and make artisan loaves in the oven for bread to go with dinner...I have a good honey/wheat loaf recipe if you are interested....

  16. Erin, I have found a few good deals on Craigslist. I have purcased a lot of jelly jars from listings there.

chicksfarm, you'll have to keep an eye out for one on Craigslist or at a yard sale...better yet, teach your husband to make bread!!

  17. Aw Robin, You've got my old breadmaker (RIP after 5 years battering). It cost me 5 times as much back then.

Don'y worry about Iggy. He's an unreformed Luddite. Electric ovens? Hell fire!
