We made it home just in time for.............

SNOW!!!! Yes, it is snowing here in eastern Pennsylvania in October! I really can't remember the last time that we had snow in October. We haven't even had a frost yet.......but, that will change tonight. It looks like we will get about 6" of snow.....just crazy!

As you can see, I haven't put the patio furniture away and the annual flowers are still alive.

I did manage to put the cold frame tops on early this morning before the snow started. I am so happy that I re-covered the tops before we left. I will attach them permanently when the weather calms down....but, the bricks will have to do for now.

The veggies growing in the basement are looking good and will have to wait a bit to get hardened off and planted in the cold frames.

As usual, we had a great time in New Orleans. I did read all of the Thursday's Kitchen Cupboard posts both weeks and some other posts as well. For some reason though, our travel computer would not let me comment on most blogs.

I will do a post or two about some of what we did while we were away. For now, the kit-cats and the washing machine really need my attention!

  1. It's cold as the dickens here in NC..we have had the fireplace going to knock off the chill...but this morning we needed to put on the furnace for the whole house, it was just too chilly. I think we are in for a cold winter like we had a hot summer.

  2. Oh no! It is really snowing! I bet you wish you were back in New Orleans right now instead of in this cold snowy weather. Luckily you made it home in time to cover the cold frames.

  3. I'm not sure I should be excited for you or not:) I think initially it's fun, but that usually is the sign of the "break" from gardening. Your pics do make it all look nice though:)....but only for a couple days. It's too early for that stuff.

  6. It's difficult to imagine snow for Halloween! It's 60F here today and sunny. We've had frosts, but the system gave us rain when it went through here.

  7. Welcome home. It is just hard to believe I live in the mountains where it is suppose to snow (not that I am in any hurry for it) and all I have had are 3 light dusting when I get up in the morning. I did get more stuff put away outside yesterday just incase that storm decided to find its way here.

  8. Welcome back from your travels. My daughter texted me pics of the Pennsylvania snow and I am amazed at how much you guys got this early in the season. Makes you wonder what you are in for for the rest of the season?!

  9. Aren't vacations great??! It's crazy that you hadn't even had a frost first before the snow. I guess I didn't realize that you had stuff started in the basement for cold frames. Good luck with it!

  10. Ginny, there's an old Dutch saying, "If there is an early snow storm, it will be a mild winter". I hope that it's true!

Rachel, I am so happy we got home before the snow!

Rohrebot, NOT!! It's way too early for snow!

Jane, The snow was something. Our city has trick or treat on the last Friday of the month....so, the kids made out just fine!

    Mrs.P, It was something!

Thanks Jody, I hope that you didn't loose power like we did!

Dave a/k/a Villager, We didn't have one frost before this snow....just crazy!

Thanks Wilderness, I hope that you weren't hit by this storm...it's too early for this stuff!

Perdita, We had a great time on vacation! The plants in the basement should do just fine. The weather will return to normal and they will get planted out in the cold frames. Last year I didn't put them out until the end of November or early December. I didn't want the house sitter to have to tend to the cold frames while we were gone.
