Harvest Monday.....................09/17/2012

Believe it or not, I didn't harvest any tomatoes this week! There are some over at the plots, which I may pick today after work. If not, I will pick them tomorrow or Wednesday when we have our Garden Committee meeting.

I did harvest some nice peppers and eggplants this week.

Hot & Spice Peppers

A nice bowl of eggplant

Sweet Peppers
The dark peppers are Purple Beauty

The last of the Spaghetti Squash from the home garden.

I dug the rest of the Kennebec Potatoes on Saturday. But, have yet to weigh them. They will be counted in next week. There were also some dry beans, the balance of the popcorn and peas harvested this week.

Total weighed harvest - 21.45 lbs.

Eggplant - 58.25 oz
Peppers:
    Hot & Spice - 43.5 oz
    Sweet - 40 oz
Spaghetti Squash - 192.55 oz.

    1. Thanks Becky, The peppers are pretty much taken care of. I really don't know what I'm going to do with all the eggplant though.

  2. After a week away, at last we HAVE managed to harvest lots of tomatoes - although they are all from our plot greenhouse. The garden greenhouse is way behind for some reason. I wonder if the smaller plot greenhouse has a warmer atmosphere?

    1. Marcia, the job going great! I really wish the garden harvests would have been a little more normal though. Then I wouldn't be doing everything at once! At least it feels that way!

  9. Pretty harvests. I used to love spaghetti squash, but could never grow it because the borers would always kill it. So now I'm just growing what grows. But it works.

  10. Lovely peppers! I've never grown that Purple Beauty. It almost looks black in the photo. I'll have to check it out. Looks like sweet and hot yummys in there. I have saved up enough of the hot ones to make a batch of hot sauce. I am wondering if it will turn out orange or not.

    1. Thanks Dave, Those purple peppers are almost black. The peppers are quite late this year. So, who knows how they would be in a normal year, if that exists any more! Yes, there are some Hot & Sweet Yummy's there. They are a very prolific and nice pepper!

  11. Like the peppers. It is so strange you tomatoes are about done and mine are just starting to get color. Most are still green. Sure a different world where I live.

    2. But you were near the lake which was much more mild than it is hear and about a month longer growing season.

  12. Are the dark purple peppers sweet like the green ones? I don't think I have ever seen them before. You got a great harvest even without tomatoes for this time of year. Nancy

  13. What a lovely harvest! I'm still waiting for my sweet peppers to get red. It's like watching water to boil... Your spaghetti squashes look nice and ripe. I harvested 2, but they were so green still, as the plants died before the fruits got a chance to get ripen.

  17. What a nice mix of peppers and that spaghetti squash looks good too. Our peppers did an earlier production and then stopped flowering setting fruit in July (it was cool) and finally got going again in August. I have lots of smallish green peppers on various plants and am just hoping they get on with it before the night temps get too much cooler.

    1. Laura, my early peppers got BER from the hot weather. Now they are going again and it's really cooling down. I only had a few peppers turn color this year. Hopefully your peppers will get on with it!
